Space Information
National Baekdudaegan Arboretum is divided into Ecology Exploration Zone (4,973ha) and Key Development Zone (206ha). The Ecology Exploration Zone conserves the natural ecology, which includes representative species such as upright Korean red pine, and allows visitors to directly experience the natural environment. The Key Development Zone is divided into the entrance and community area, themed garden exhibition and education area, forest bio-resources research area, and forest conservation/restoration area, forming a space where research, education, and experience are carried out harmoniously.
The Visitor Center in the entrance and community area was given the symbolism as the gateway of Baekdudaegan Arboretum utilizing a shape that symbolizes the beginning and future hope of the arboretum. The Seed Vault is the world's first forest seed storage facility designed in an underground tunnel form which can store forest plant seeds as many as one million seeds of useful forest plants from around the world, thereby providing for the far future in which the current extinct plants could be restored. The project also included such unique facilities as the Tiger Forest, the largest Baekdudaegan tiger breeding ground in Korea.
