KORAIL Retail HQ The headquarters building of Korail Retail on Gukhoe-daero, Yeongdeungpo-gu was designed to improve the status of Korail Retail through a symbolic image and lead the development of the underdeveloped areas, creating a lively space that will contribute to the revitalization of local economy and community. This project also realized energy-saving low-carbon green building with the use of new renewable energy and passive design.

The architectural design concept of Korail Retail building was '+1' which means it adds up to the city, space, and building. Embodied in the shape of number 1, the building communicates the image of Korail Retail as a distribution and advertising company leading the future. The concept was materialized as a design symbolizing number 1, suggesting that the new building is the ‘No. 1 Landmark’ that improves the status of Korail Retail, the ‘First Gateway’ to leading the direction of area development, and a communication space of ‘One Community,’ where the public come together.
An inner court was planned in the neighborhood commercial facilities located in the lower floors, creating a nature-friendly space that enables daylighting and ventilation. To save energy, the middle-floor business facilities were designed with a curtain wall system that can control solar radiation with opening or closing vertical louvers. The upper-floor office space was planned in consideration of future expansion, and realized energy-saving low-carbon green building with the use of new renewable energy and passive design.
