Seoul Botanic Park is an urban park and a healing space for urban residents, created under the concept of a botanic park (botanic garden + a park) adopted after winning the 2007 International Design Competition for Magok Waterfront. It is located at Magok district, the last underdeveloped district of Seoul city, with a participation of many experts from dif-ferent fields, in order to introduce plant species and botan-ical cultures of 12 major cities of the world and to promote the ecological sensitivity of urban residents. Composed of 11 buildings and structures including a greenhouse with a con-cave ceiling and other convenient facilities, Seoul Botanic Park is created as an experience-based urban park, where visitors can enjoy various plant species and botanical classes. Seoul Botanic Park, as a citizen-friendly park that respects life, will try to show the visitors that the human history and culture have been growing and living in harmony with many botani-cal species, and thereby, nurture people of Seoul to be aware of and act for the environmental protection, while constantly displaying and preserving diverse botanical species.
