Gwanghwamun D Tower The D Tower is a landmark building located in Cheongjin district of Jongno, a place famously known for the Pimatgol Alley which is specifically outlined by the ‘Urban Environment Redevelopment Plan’ prepared by the Metropolitan Government of Seoul. Because of the unique site location, various design factors had to be considered including the restoration of Junghakcheon, underground development guidelines, as well as the restoration of Pimatgol Alley among others.

Jongno is a place surrounded by many traditional and historical landmarks. Unlike the Gangnam district well-known for its high density and verticality, Jongno is a place seeking harmony with the surroundings. For this reason, the design team focused to express calm and warm statements with comprehensive planning that recreates intimate spaces within the large building.
Bland vertical expressions were avoided and the whole mass is divided to deliver diversified urban landscapes by smoothly stacking the various mass which results in a dynamic facade that changes appearance depending on the viewing angle. For the external finish, warm and intimate materials resembling earth, tree, and sky were applied throughout the building to create a user-friendly atmosphere.
